Love, memory, and time have a way of intertwining, don’t they? Some moments stay with us, others fade, but they all leave their mark. That’s what Shadow Waltz is all about—capturing that feeling of connection, whether it’s to someone we’ve loved, a moment we can’t forget, or even the passage of time itself.
This piece is special to me because it was one of the first times I truly let go in my new studio—experimenting with texture and allowing emotion to take the lead in the underpainting. There was no overthinking, just feeling. I actually painted Shadow Waltz about a year ago, but something in me wasn’t ready to list it until now. And maybe that’s fitting, because like love and memory, sometimes things take their time to find their place.
The Story Behind Shadow Waltz
When I started painting this piece, I kept thinking about movement—the push and pull of life, the way we hold on, and how we eventually learn to let go. The deep blues, fiery reds, and soft greens blend together, creating an energy that feels both raw and intentional. The textured layers give the painting a life of its own, revealing new details every time you look at it.
It’s been amazing to hear how others see it—some describe it as a dance with the past, others see it as facing change, and a few have even called it a celebration of resilience. I have my own thoughts, but honestly? I love hearing what it means to you.

More to Come...
Recently, I’ve been exploring new ways to bring texture and depth into my work. In my next post, I’ll be sharing a behind-the-scenes look at how I gather inspiration—from collecting materials out in nature to some unexpected finds at Home Depot (let’s just say spray paint was involved).
I can’t wait to show you what’s next.
Thanks for being part of my journey and letting me share pieces like this with you. I hope Shadow Waltz resonates with you, whatever it may mean in your world.
With love,
Christina Deubel
